MEDIA RELEASE - BRISBANE TO GAIN NEW RIVERFRONT VENUE
September 2008

The Queensland Rugby Club (QRC) has great news for event planners looking for an exciting new banquet and function venue in Brisbane. The club is moving ahead with a $13 million transformation of a landmark riverside location in the CBD to turn it into what will undoubtedly become one of the city's most spectacular banquet venues. To be known as Rugby Quay, it will incorporate a signature restaurant, riverfront event centre and a private club.

The site was previously the home of Michael's Riverside Restaurant at the prestigious Riverside Centre in Eagle Street, and offers panoramic views of Brisbane's Story Bridge, the Kangaroo Point cliffs and the Brisbane River

The event centre, to be called The Strand at Rugby Quay, will seat up to 320 guests and will offer five star standard boutique-style dining and service matched by striking contemporary decor. The event centre can be divided into two smaller venues, with a double width sound-proof operable wall separating each room.

The location in the heart of the "Golden Triangle" business district of Brisbane's CBD will make it the perfect venue for business tourism social events. Its close proximity to many of Brisbane's leading international hotels and location directly adjacent to the main City Cat terminal will offer excellent access for visiting conference groups.

The Queensland Rugby Club Director of Sales & Marketing, Mr Bill Brassington said "This venue will offer a fresh new alternative for organisers who are always on the hunt for something new and different. We believe that it ticks all the boxes when it comes to venue selection and once the extensive building programme and six month fit-out is finalised, we are confident it will become one of Brisbane's iconic venues." Mr Brassington said that he anticipated the Rugby Quay complex would be open for operations in the first quarter of 2009.

In addition to The Strand at Rugby Quay, the landmark development will also include a 150 seat signature restaurant to be called "Tempo at Rugby Quay" and the exclusive Queensland Rugby Club on its upper level. Tempo will feature both indoor and al fresco dining and will be open 7 days per week.

Depending upon availability, the Queensland Rugby Club facilities may also be available for smaller more intimate functions and events.
