MEDIA RELEASE - RUGBY QUAY TO BECOME RIVERSIDE LANDMARK 17 October 2007
The Queensland Rugby Club (QRC) is delighted to announce its new lease over an extensive prime riverfront tenancy in the prestigious Riverside Centre in Eagle Street, Brisbane. The Riverside Centre is owned by the GPT Wholesale Office Fund (GWOF) and is managed by Jones Lang LaSalle.
In jointly announcing the deal, Mr Martin Ritchie, GWOF Fund Manager and Mr Chris McCluskey, President of the QRC, indicated that a long-term lease had been granted to the QRC over the tenancy currently occupied by Michael's Restaurant.
The Club will take occupation of the premises on 2 January next year and will undertake the complete removal of the existing internal fit-out in preparation for a six month refurbishment programme.
GPT's Martin Ritchie said "We are delighted that one of Queensland's iconic institutions will become a tenant of the Riverside Centre and we are looking forward to seeing the exciting plans of the Queensland Rugby Club come to fruition in this landmark riverside location. Together with the recent completion of two new promenade level restaurants, the Club's confidence in securing the Riverside Centre tenancy confirms that the precinct is set to become Brisbane's most exciting prestige dining precinct."
The 1,200 square metre premises, to be called Rugby Quay, will include a signature restaurant and extensive function and event facilities. The decision by the Club to take on the tenancy has arisen from a need to secure new long-term CBD premises and, in 2009, will relocate the current Rugby Club Downtown premises in the Eagle Street Pier complex which is subject to future redevelopment.
The QRC's President, Chris McCluskey indicated that the existing Rugby Club Downtown facility would continue to operate as normal in its current location, at least until the end of 2008. "Once plans have been finalised and approvals obtained for the Rugby Quay development, we will be able to advise our 4,000 Club members of the specific nature of all the new facilities."
