PENFOLDS LUNCHEON - WENDELL SAILOR
Dual International and Australia's most Flamboyant Sporting Personality
WENDELL SAILOR
|
Join us as we celebrate the remarkable playing career of one of Australia's biggest sporting identities, former Kangaroo and Wallaby representative, Wendell Sailor.
He talks the talk, now he's walking the walk. Wendell Sailor is a larger than life character who is never far from the headlines, just ask him, he'll tell you himself!
|
 |
|
Regarded by many as "the most charismatic personality in Australian sport...", Wendell Sailor was an exceptional athlete who is revered as one of rugby league's greatest ever wingers. In a league career spanning nine seasons with the Brisbane Broncos, Wendell crossed for a phenomenal 126 tries in 209 club games, and represented Queensland in 17 State of Origin matches and Australia in 21 internationals.
Wendell's switch to rugby union with his move to the Queensland Reds in October 2001 attracted a blaze of publicity but Wendell's playing performances lived up to the hype, as he was a key strike weapon for the Wallabies.
|
 |
Wendell is one of the highest profile and most charismatic sporting personalities in Australia. His ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds is a very special quality. Having achieved the highest pinnacle in professional sport as a dual international, Wendell is taking his larger than life personality from the sporting arena to the media arena and to our Penfolds Luncheon centre stage this July. This is one not to be missed.

QRC CONNECT - SCOTT HARRIS
| The Queensland Rugby Club is delighted to feature member Scott Harris in this month's QRC Connect. |
Scott Harris Managing Director Scott Harris Constructions and Architectural Timber Joinery
|
Former Queensland Reds player and one of the QRC's first benefactors, Scott Harris is the Director and Owner of Scott Harris Constructions and Architectural Timber Joinery based in Wacol. Scott Harris Constructions is now one of Queensland's leading builders, specialising in new architecturally designed houses, quality renovations and extensions. |

|
As a young boy at the Anglican Church of Grammar School ‘Churchie', Scott was heavily involved in Rugby Union honing his skills and passion for the game as Captain of the First XV. Playing No 8 for West's from 1986 - 1994 Scott lead the team to several victories. Scott also played rugby for Sunnybank in 1991/1992 and went onto became a "red" representing Queensland in 1991-1993. During the 1990/91 off season Scott travelled to France and played a season of rugby for French team Bourg-en-Bresse first division. Scott also played for the Australian School Boys team in 1985 in the undefeated tour of the UK / Europe. |
Scott became a member of the Queensland Rugby Club in 1991 as all Reds representatives receive automatic membership during their time playing for Queensland. Scott has continued to support Queensland Rugby and annually renews his membership to support the current Reds team.
"Rugby is my blood and whilst I don't play the game anymore I love to stay connected to the game that has given me so much."
When the QRC Benefactor Lounge was announced back in September of 2008, Scott was one of the first Queensland Rugby members to sign up. "I think the benefactor programme provides great value to all involved", Scott highlights "After paying the one off fee of $10,000 (plus GST), it has allowed me lifetime membership and I will get the opportunity to pass it onto my children for their lifetime".
"Due to business commitments, I'm often out and about meeting with clients to discuss potential opportunities, with my office/factory located at Wacol, it proves a little challenging for some to make their way out so I plan to use the Benefactor Lounge as my own "office in the city". It will be prove to be much more convenient for my clients. I will also get the opportunity to enjoy the additional benefits of the catering, hospitality, concierge and business services within the lounge." |

BARRACLOUGH SHIELD CLASH ENDS IN A DRAW
NSW Suburban has retained the Barraclough Shield after drawing 22-all with Queensland Suburban in their annual interstate challenge played in Sydney. It's the third draw in the history of the Shield contests, first played in 1966.
The lead changed four times throughout the match, with neither side able to get ahead by more than a converted try. The NSW team came back from 8-15 down to push out to a lead of 22-15, but Queensland fought back to level the scores. The game went right to the wire as Queensland took a shot at goal on fulltime but the penalty kick hit the upright.
University prop Andrew Bradford, Pine Rivers Boars No 8 Phillip Broucamp and TC Beirne law school centre David Purcell all scored tries for Qld Suburban, while Wynnum fullback Aaron Savage contributed a penalty and conversion and Pine Rivers replacement back Jamie Tupea added a conversion.
The annual matches alternate between Brisbane and Sydney and last year's clash in Brisbane was won convincingly by NSW. QSRU 22 (A Bradford, P Croucamp, D Purcell tries A Savage pen, con J Tupea con) drew NSWSRU 22 (Daniel Nieass, Jonathan Manu, Vaotagi Mafi tries, Nieass 2 cons, pen).
